We have over 25 wrapped prizes, $5, $10 certificates plus the Silver Egg worth $25 and the Golden egg worth $50. The Easter Egg Hunt takes place both in the shop and garden, weather permitting.

“So, you want to start a business?”

Class will be taught in a small business retail shop setting: Renaissance by Design – 544 Baxter Ave.

This class will get you thinking of the ins and outs of starting a business whether it be a brick and mortar storefront to just becoming a dealer at antique or peddler malls and markets and fairs. We will discuss topics from concept to opening day with real life experiences. You will learn the legalities of business startup such as obtaining business licenses, registering with the state and federal agencies, tax forms, corporation vs sole proprietorship, etc. There will be information on naming your business, market research, business resources, hiring of employees, manufacturing, advertising and actually retailing. All topics regarding starting a business will be explored.

“Furniture Arrangement Workshop”

You will learn how to measure and draft out an area you are having trouble arranging furniture. We will explore using existing pieces of furniture or replacing new furniture in the sizes to fit or accommodate your space and needs while addressing correct furniture placement. Accessorizing will be discussed as time allows.
Supplies required: ¼” Grid/Graph paper, pencil, scissors, tape measure

Chalk Painting Basics 101

This 2 night workshop will have everyone doing the same hands on project to learn the fundamentals of painting with chalk paint. Distressing, glazing and finish coat will all be demonstrated and ultimately performed by you. All paint, brushes and materials are included in supplies fee. Come prepared to paint in the appropriate clothing – aprons will not be supplied. All products are water based for easy cleanup. Everyone will have a finished product to take home.

This class will build on what you learned in the basics class 101. You will create a finished piece of furniture in the style and color of your choosing. A full selection of paint products & colors will be on site for you to purchase before the class. Please bring a small manageable item that is ready to paint in our allotted time frame (lamp, small table, chair, etc.) Once again come prepared to paint in appropriate clothing. Must supply own drop cloth, gloves and brushes. Basic cleaning supplies, sand paper, paper towels, etc. are included in the basic supplies fee.
Basic Supplies Fee: $10 + whatever paint you wish to purchase the first night of class. $99 Class size limited to 10

Basic Upholstery and Pillow Making

This class will take you thru the fundamentals of small upholstery projects that can be performed with simple tools and a home sewing machine. Class exercises will be both demonstration and hands on. There will be a demonstration on upholstering a headboard. You will be shown how to cover slip seats, benches & box style chairs. You will also learn how to prepare a piece for reupholstering, how to do webbing, welting, trim and pillow making. You will be required to bring one small project for you to finish towards the end of the class (not a headboard). Webbing, fill, foam, tacks & staples etc., will be included in the basic material fee. Do not bring your project to the First Class! Basic materials fee $28 due on first night. Other material lists will be given out as needed for you to purchase prior to the next upcoming class. CLASS SIZE LIMITED TO 6! $169

This is a one evening special event! Explore the Mellwood Antiques & Interiors with interior designer & dealer Kelli Milligan. The Mellwood Antique Mall will open its doors for us to have a private and informative experience learning the basics of quality furnishings. You will learn about veneer vs. solid wood, different styles, handmade quality vs. manufactured, period furniture, vintage and new. How to look at decorating your home with quality unique items and reinventing old furnishings to work in today’s world. Using antiques is considered to be part of a green life style. So, help save the earth while creating a lasting & personalized interior. This is an all walking class, so wear comfortable shoes. (There are benches along the way for those who may need a quick rest)

Skip the lines and the crowd and enjoy an exclusive tour of the 41th Annual Bellarmine University Women’s Council Designers’ Show House with Louisville Interior Designer Kelli L. Milligan of Renaissance by Design. Kelli will offer this special one night only special tour and class of “The Charleston”, a beautiful custom home built in Norton Commons inspired by the historical homes of Charleston, S.C. Individual rooms are decorated by some of Louisville’s top designers and will provide a plethora of design ideas. This class will include the private tour of the house by Kelli who can answer questions on current trends and styles of interior design. The evening will conclude in “The Boutique” where you can shop from the finest unique vendors in our area. Interior design discussions can continue as you look.

30th Annual Bardstown Road Aglow Saturday Dec 5th 5 -10pm

We will be celebrating our 30th Aglow with our usual fair of appetizers, the roasting of marshmallows in the garden by the fire, entertainment by our bagpiper, wonderful selections of new, handmade and antique gifts and we are participating in several contests for our customers. We are part of the “Buy Local” campaign for Shift your Shopping, where participants are eligible to win a $1000.00 shopping spree from LIBA members. We have our hidden elf in the shop for you to find a take a “Selfie with an Elfie” to win prizes. Free ‘glow bracelets to be handed out while supplies last to help you “Get your Aglow on”.

Renaissance is an official trolley stop on the North bound Red Trolley. We are either the first stop or the last stop on the big red trolley. New this year is how the trolleys will run. All trolleys turn around at Eastern Parkway. The North bound trolley runs from Baxter/Lexington Road to Eastern Parkway and back again. The South bound trolley runs from the Douglas Loop to Eastern Parkway. A third trolley is a “park and hop” from Knights Hall at Bellarmine University to take you to Eastern Parkway where you can catch one of the trolleys going North or South.

JCPS Offers: Let’s Go to an Auction

Ever wanted to go to an auction but were afraid you would buy something you didn’t want by just scratching your head? This class will ease your fears and teach you to how to buy at auction like pros. You’ll learn the hand signals, lingo, and jargon, buyers & sellers fees, and where to find the best auctions. At the end of the class we will hold a “mock auction” with a licensed auctioneer – Steve Lee of Red Gavel Auction. This class should prove to be both very entertaining and informative. Join us for this one night class in the casual setting of Renaissance by Design located in the Highlands. Instruction by Kelli L. Milligan, Certified Appraiser and Antique Dealer. Three classes will be offered – Wednesday Evenings. Registration is limited to 12 students.

Featured events include concerts, an Iron Chef-style competition, a farmers market, an arts and crafts market, a craft beer tent and a children’s area.   All participants are locally owned, independent businesses, who also provided quality items for a silent auction.  There will also be lots of food trucks on site with some great food.  This is a very nice and fun event.
